Nvidia to cash in as dual-core devices go mainstream

“It seems like only weeks ago that dual-core processors were considered overkill for mobile devices, not to mention eating their batteries. But in 2011 they will be mainstream, driving even better graphics, gaming and video experience, according to the vendors. This will see a swarm of tablets and superphones with multicore processors, many of them appearing at the huge New Year gadget-fest that is the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Of course, CES, often reflects crazes that don’t go commercial – very few of the smartbooks that dominated this January’s show came to market and now the term is almost forgotten. The same may happen to ‘cloudbooks’, which should make their debut in 2011. But many of the dual-core tablets on show will be just about to launch, and Nvidia will finally get its big chance to be a big player in mobile processors, with its dual-core Tegra 2 chip.”
