Threaded multicore processing ready for Synopsys’ PrimeTime

EDA and IP vendor Synopsys Inc. said it has added threaded multicore processing to its latest release of PrimeTime static analysis tool, enabling up to 2x speed of timing signoff.

The trend in CPU performance improvement lies in parallel computing. In order for EDA applications to adjust to design size and complexity, they need to use multicore hardware. With PrimeTime, Synopsys said it has implemented two approaches to multicore support: threaded multicore analysis and distributed multicore analysis.

In a discussion with EE Times, Bernadette Mortell, senior product marketing manager, PrimeTime suite, at Synopsys, explained that the newest release, PrimeTime 2009.12, through the addition of threaded multicore processing, provides more flexibility to the designers.
