Demystifying the standards development process

The process of creating a standard is only one piece of a larger life cycle that spans from pre-standardization investigation and planning through post-publication activities, including testing, promotion, education and maintenance.

An effective standards life cycle process is built on three key elements: efficient collaboration, facilitation of consensus and world-class partnering. The collaborative environment must be robust and adaptable to meet the requirements of the task at hand. It must succeed in integrating the participants, the data and the process steps to allow for efficient execution from kickoff to completion.
