ADI doubles Sharc processor performance

Analog Devices Inc. (Norwood, MA) will start sampling in the first quarter of next year a range of Sharc processors that the company says doubles the performance of the previous generation, incorporates some fixed function hardware blocks, and has the industry’s highest performance floating point DSP. Initial parts are targeted at the industrial and instrumentation, automotive audio and home theatre applications sectors.

Sharing the same higher-performance design as the pro audio version of the Sharc 21469 introduced in October, at up to 450 MHz/2700 Mflops, the devices incorporate features such as hardware accelerators, increased on-chip SRAM, a high-speed DDR2 SDRAM external memory interface, and link ports.
