The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium today announced that EEMBC President Markus Levy is a guest editor for the May/June 2009 special issue of IEEE Micro to be devoted to embedded multicore processors and systems. Tom Conte, professor in the College of Computing of the Georgia Institute of Technology, will co-edit the forthcoming issue.
Embedded multicore processors encompass a very broad range of architectures, applications, and usage models. In the embedded world, multicore technology is widely used for network processors, digital signal processors, and GPUs. The embedded multicore domain also includes systems-on-chip (SoCs), in which homogeneous and heterogeneous processors can be combined in a potentially infinite number of ways to tackle specific applications.
As EEMBC President, Levy has led the development of MultiBench(TM), the first industry-standard benchmarks for embedded multicore processors. He is also the founder and president of the Multicore Association.
